Man. Does anybody else remember that scent? Linnaea got a new doll yesterday, and its face is made out of vinyl, imbued with the scent of vanilla. As is the magical ability of scent, it took me directly back to my childhood. I must have had at least one toy that smelled the exact same way. Mmmm. Linnaea seemed to like it, too, as she immediately grabbed the doll and slobbered all over its face.
Aside: She rather resembles a showy lady’s slipper, doesn’t she?

Proud parent dropping by from the UK, you got a link from the front page so I thought I’d see. You have a very lovely child, and I like your blog. The name Linnaea caught my attention, I’ve never encountered if before. I see you named her after the flower, but I presume you realize the flower is named after Carl Linnaeus, the Swedish naturalist? Either way it’s nice to see it used. My best wishes to your family.
Thank you for your kind comments!
And yes! Someone who knows! We actually debated for quite some time whether to spell her name “Linnea” (as my grandfather’s cousin spells her name, a spelling perhaps more directly in honor of Linné himself) or “Linnaea” (the spelling shared by his favorite flower, named in his honor(“The genus Linnaea was named by the famous Gronovius and is a Lapland plant, humble, insignificant and disregarded, flowering but for a brief time, from Linnaeus who resembles it,” he said)).
Too parenthetical!
Your post brought back a flood of memories playing with my Strawberry Shortcake dolls!!

No kidding–just last night I was explaining to Pater that the Strawberry Shortcake toys were awesome because they were all strawberry scented. It’s crazy that they’re back, along with My Little Ponies and Care Bears (alas, all altered to varying degrees). Now if we could only get Rainbow Brite going again, I’d be in hog heaven.
